 Liver Shunt- Phenobarbital

I did a search and couldn't find that this was posted anywhere so if you already know it I'm sorry but if not this is so worth knowing if your baby has a liver shunt and uses Phenobarbital.
Haven't posted on this side for awhile, but my Charlie has the non surgical liver shunting (MVD) he has been on the low protein diet for years and does fairly well on it but has suffered from seizures. over the last year they have become more frequent and I use the Phenobarbital for them which is very expensive from the vet ($44 per dose)
Charlie also uses Lactulose and Flagyl which are human medications as well and I saw a commercial for GoodRx and thought I would go to see if they could be cheaper through them.
Well I found the Phenobarbital for $6.00 for 12 doses. I was astounded. Now I have a very good vet, she was not aware that the elixir form of the Phenobarbital could be obtained from a local pharmacy any longer she happily wrote me a script and gave it to me I took it to Walmart and had it filled. I have had to use it and it has worked just as good as what I have got from the vet in the past. So it might be something to look into and talk to your vet about.
