I use the same rubber bands. I don't do them too tight, just tight enough to stay on, and I don't split and pull , I roll them down if need be. Then I take one and pull it farther towards the top so it holds the hair closer to her head instead of. The air and it seems to stay nicer longer. Also when I take them out I don't bother pulling it out. I just use nail clippers and clip two pieces and then spread the hair out so it brushes out easir with less damage.
