It's not a distrust per se, in fact, I give every new vet a blank slate. But they are the ones that fall short and miss the mark. There are good and bad in every profession and sometimes it's the charming seemingly committed vet that is the true charlatan. Like any service or relationship, a critical eye means you are a smart consumer. Pseudoscience is an entirely different matter -- I will take a mediocre vet any day over some of these salespeople.
Besides the emergency vet I have been lucky I guess. The er vet seemed like I woke him up and was annoying him. The first vet we went to that we used for my moms and dad's pets was not bad persay but they were a "country vet" they do horses, goats and such as well as other pets and were always so busy and I felt rushed and everything else so when my current vet opened her practice we went and I loved it. They let me ask everything in the world didn't rush me or anything. She had worked at a vet hospital for many years before doing her own practice. One of my favorite vet techs always asks me when I'm going to start working for her and how I need to go to school to be a vet tech and work for her. The specialists I have been to have been great also. But Callie is my first so that might make a difference to. In 15 years I may feel different.
