Thank you for the caution but these are not designed for hamsters & rabbits (although you can use it for them). They're actually made for dogs, specifically Show dogs. Since they can't get their hair wet or when they travel, it's attached to crates.

I've had mine for over 6 years & the little roller never got stuck. You do have to tap on the roller when you 1st put fresh bottle of water on it to release the air trap. I do have fresh water available for them in bowls also.

It's excellent for puppies that are confined in puppy apartments or ex-pen. Since they can accidentally tip over the water bowls.
