I have been told in the past that it will work it's way out. When I have a tick I spray it with tick repellent and it usually will be so upset it will wiggle it's way out because it is mad. I use Avon Bug Guard and have used it on limited areas of my dog just for tick removal, although I only use Avon Skin So Soft on them as needed. Luckily I don't have ticks in our yard (never seen one in 12 years here) so around the house I don't have to worry about them.
If we take them to the walking trail though I have to check for ticks when we get home.
I hope someone has a better answer for you. I would definitely keep an eye on it though.
