I don't know if this method would work but I saw on youtube how someone applied the tick repellent (like advantix) right on the spot and the tick just fell out on its own.

I did do a search and this is what I found that looked important if you didn't do it already:

The Epsom salt soak involves preparing a solution of warm water and Epsom salt, dipping a washcloth in the solution and applying it to the inflamed area for five minutes. Not only does this draw out the infection, it loosens the tick parts remaining in the skin and brings them to the skin's surface.

If a tick head remains untreated in a dog, granulation tissue forms around the tick head, preventing infection from spreading to other parts of the dog's body. If the tick head remains embedded and the site remains inflamed, a vet may need to remove the tick head.
