I am a dental hygienist and believe me nothing will remove the tartar with out the proper cleaning and the proper instruments. Left on there it will continue to get thicker and with their small roots may eventually have gum disease and possibly lose some of them. My yorkies have never liked getting their teeth brushed either, so once a year my vet does anesthesize and remove the buildup. It is a simple procedure and well worth it long term. Good luck!
