I think microchip is a must. I say to take advantage of the anesthesia and have it done. No matter how careful we are they can become lost and this is really the only way to prove it is your dog. You can feel it if you hunt for it, but I don't generally feel it just by petting them, bathing them, etc.
As far as dental procedures, they are not as deeply sedated as they would be in a surgery and the gas anesthesia they use for small dogs is quickly reversible. I always take all precautions I can and do blood work ahead of time to make sure all is normal, request iv in place during procedure and a warming pad is used. |
