 PLE disease
My little Yorkie, four pounds of him, started to show an ever growing belly just before Christmas. Went to the Vet and he said not to feed him so much. Well it got bigger and the rest of his body was turning into skin and bones, the poor guy was not well. Back to the vet who sent us to a specialist in internal medicine. Diagnosis: PLE. protein loss entropothy. Olle was not processing protein, turning it into water which was gathering around his intestines. Vet waid we were lucky it hadn't gathered in his lungs or he would have died. He got shots, pout on predizone, and a couple of other meds, and today he iss right back to his old sself. But he will have to be on medicine the rest of his life as the disease is controlled not cured. Yorkies, Wheaten Terriers, Basenjis, and Elkounds are prone to this disease although it can his any dog. My bill was almost $2000. BUT I have medical insurance, have filed a claim, and I hope to get freinmbursed most of the money. Thanks for reading the story and I hope you don't get hit with this problem. Bill McGrath |
