Babies sleep so much no doubt he nods off pretty soon after you leave. And confining them is safe for a baby, also eventually teaches them to hold their waste until they are released from confinement and taken to the appropriate potty area. As others suggested, leaving her with things to chew on and play with, kong toys stuffed with kibble and such, will help her keep busy until she tires and sleeps again, wakes and plays some more, sleeps, etc. Most healthy dogs quickly learn how to accept and adapt to staying alone, eventually coming to learn that their human packmate always returns to them after a while and their easiest way of coping with our absence is just to mostly sleep while we're gone.
