It is very good to leave them alone some. I crate mine because he gets into stuff when I am gone and if I crate him I know he is not destroying things. He is really good when I am home, but left alone he gets into trouble. I just put him in his crate and tell him I will be back in a few minutes and leave. He is very good and then when I come home he squeals because he is happy to see me, but that is okay. I let him out of his crate and he says hi to me and then everything is right back to the way it was before I left.
I would start leaving the puppy alone for 10 minutes a couple times a day, then 20 minutes and then 30 minutes. Then leave it for an hour. Make sure it has toys or things to chew on.
I think I actually have worse separation anxiety than the dog does to be honest. He is just always happy to see me and it doesn't matter if I ran up to the school to drop something off and am gone 10 minutes or if I had to work a 1/2 a day and was gone 4 hours, he is just as happy to see me. It is really cute actually.
Good luck!
