I would also suggest having a vet examine his body frame and give you an estimate of what his ideal weight may be. And of course get him more active, as well. You'll generally want to be able to feel a little bit of rib and have more slender waistline (no sausage on sticks, like my girl at times lol). Also depending on how much he loses, he may have some slightly saggy skin, which should firm up overtime.
