My Yorkies are pretty good at not throwing too many tantrums, but I used to have a male toy poodle named Wizard that had a mind of his own and you always were made aware of it. Wizard was very smart and was able to complete many commands......when he wanted. However, when Wizard did not want to comply he would hang his head down low and begin to make the weirdest sound. We always referred to it as him cussing us out.....it was a low guttural sound that he would make as he would exit off into his kennel. That meant, no go..I'm done...shows over. When Wizard was done, he was totally done, he told you, put his head down, cursed you and left the room.
