This July we are going on vacation for just a couple days and I planned on leaving my pups at my vet's boarding since I really like my vet and trust them. Yesterday when I took them in for their heartworm test I decided to get a tour of the boarding area. The boarding area was small (I live in a small town), but was clean. The first issue I had was there was no size option. The small dogs staying the small kennel and large dogs in the large kennel. I would have liked to have an option to pay more for a larger kennel. I didn't prefer it, but I could live with this. The deal breaker was when she told me they only let the dogs out for potty breaks/play time 3 or 4 times a day! There is no way my pups, who are used to going out as needed would be able to handle this. They would soil their small living area multiple times a day/night. When I got home I wanted to cry thinking about leaving them there. Being a small town there are no other options here. Luckily, I thought of another option. We are driving 3 hours to the Wisconsin Dells for our vacation and I was able to find boarding there, with several size options, and exit run for $2 extra, and they let the dogs out every 1 1/2 hours and even have someone drop by at night to let them out if needed. It's a little more expensive than my vet, but well worth not having to feel the guilt of leaving them in a kennel only to be let out 2 times a day! I am still nervous about leaving them for even this short amount of time, but at least they will not be far from us!
