Joey's breeder told me to free feed the first 7 or 8 months. They can vomit from having low blood sugar or just an empty stomach. With low blood sugar, they lose their appetite, and the very thing that will help them which is food, they refuse to eat. I kept a little food and water in his kennel at night and when he got up to pee, he was give a few cheerios. When they are sleeping through the night, you can just give them some food before bedtime. Also, it's important to choose a food where protein is the main ingredient. Proteins stay with you longer then carbohydrates. Carbohydrates can make you feel full faster, but they also can make you feel hungrier sooner. Look for a food where a protein is the first ingredient, especially a protein meal. Fresh chicken may sound great, but it has much more water and if it's the first ingredient, it doesn't mean that protein is the number one ingredient. Food manufactures can get very tricky, so you have to know a little bit more than they think you know.
