My understanding, even from many years ago, is that even breathing the dryer exhaust from fabric softeners and chemical softener sheets is harmful to pets....humans, too, actually. I blocked my dryer vent area so my kitties couldn't lie in the warm air from the vent, as they loved to do. I got snubbed for a little while but I still have one of those kitties...he will be 17 in a couple months. Worth it, IMHO. I have heard there are now some dryer sheets that are safer and can be used on dogs, but, personally, I am just not sure I am that trusting. For static in the hair, misting with water or a light touch of a safe, edible oil...like coconut or emu oil...seems a better, safer option.
