I am familiar with this. Uno - Magics sire died from this fungal infection.
It took awhile to properly diagnose the condition and the drug that is indicated is not a commonly stocked one. The vet had to order it in from the USA. Unfortunately he died in the car on the way to the vets for treatment. He had a breathing crisis - btw he was seeing the vet almost daily for about one week! A necropsy was done to confirm diagnosis. He was not quite 4yrs old.
The last show he was in was at Westminster so Feb 14th - He first displayed symptoms about 2wks after returning home. It is possible he actually contracted the organism in New York - how-ever he lived on a farm property and it is also quite possible he contracted on his own home turf. None of his pack came down with this fungus and that at the time would have been about 4 other Blackies. And they do not live close to a body of water.
How-ever he contracted it - it is a very serious disease.
I write this as a few of our members either live close to water bodies - or like hike and swim with our dogs in the summer months.
Toronto folks who frequent our lakeside parks and just other residents of Ontario which has a multiplicity of lakes be alert.
