And we are now working on re-training LEAVE IT - sandwhich on plate etc etc - and reviewing never go for the food in my hand if I have my hand down by my side - or low down in front of tummy. Mimicing how kids will hold out food. |
I know this is not the place for this but, I had Cody 2 months, I stopped at a friend's house for a quick hello, I dropped Cody's leash when I entered the front door, he saw his fav. ppl in the living room and dashed off to say hello with me scurrying behind him, my friends teen-age daughter was sitting on the sofa, Cody flew in, the girl was holding an eaten apple, her arm was extend out, Cody flew past her and ripped that apple core right out of the girls hand and ran up the stairs to the bed rooms, I chased after him, had to pry his mouth open to get the apple core away from him. I was so mortified at his behavior, I never had any of my girls ever behave that way. I came down with dog and apple core, apologizing profusely, so totally embarrassed, they were laughing at how fast it all happened, they understood I was still getting to know Cody. The sad thing is, the way the girl had her arm extended holding the apple core was just as if you were handing your dog a treat or food, Cody didn't know. I soon realized Cody didn't have very good manners and started working on that. Today 14 months later he knows better, but that day if there was a hole, I would have crawled into it lol. The visual of Dara snatching the sandwich gave me flash back to the apple core day lol.
