The vet nutritionist said Pippi especially is an easy keeper. She could not believe how little I was feeding her to keep her from gaining.
I now home cook for them (have for some time) and the amount of food is so much more than what they had (which has made them happier) and they have maintained their weight with no problem.
I would never feed them any commercial food again. |
Yup, I agree....that's why I purposely said "usually". Like w/ people, I think there
are some dogs (and people) who eat normally but just *still* gain/keep weight on no matter what they try. In people there is a theory that this may be related to leptin disregulation...I wonder if it'd be the same in dogs, who knows. But yeah, I totally agree that sometimes there is a metabolism problem of some kind.

I believe I have mentioned that I home cook for three of my pups and I do believe I have mentioned why. One has PLE and these two for the reason stated above. No, I don't think a thread just about this was something I wanted to do. |
I think when you wrote the message before this one, it may have come off as you no longer believed in feeding commercial food, period...that may have been why Nancy was asking what happened. I too would fall off my chair if I heard you say that definitively bc then I would have to wonder how on earth you were going to cook for your whole crew

! If you had to, you would - but you'd need a kitchen assistant, lol!
