It looks like it is going to be a slow process to get Griffy comfortable with the doggie door. He has only gone through it twice on him own now, well on his own with encouragement. Once was when I had a friend over and he wanted to come back inside because he was so excited to see someone new. The other time was yesterday morning while I was getting ready for work. He started barking at me and then going to the doggie door. He typically never asks to go outside. He usually just looks at the door or stands in front of it. This time I asked him if he wanted to go outside, he got excited. I just tapped the door and told him to go out. He did it after just a few tries! I then rewarded him immediately.

He hasn't done the same since, but I feel it's an improvement.

I'm just trying not to get him into the habit of me holding the doggie door open for him. He likes to be spoiled. At one point he wouldn't eat unless I was sitting right next to him and encouraging him the entire time. I don't want him to get into that kind of habit with the doggie door.
