It really fustrates me, as like now, he is resting, he has been having a play, he is eating, drinking, and trotting around the garden! He is alert in himself and has no other signs of his conditions, apart from this dam coughing!!

if you have the ability to find an internal medicine specialist you might find that they have a wider array of drugs to try. Your dog doesn't sound ready to be put down, and should have meds to make him more comfortable. Benadryl will do nothing for a CHF cough. My dog is on hydrocodone, Temirl-p and the cough is doing well. theyve told me they can add more meds if he needs. So let's hope you just need the right vet to help you.
