I do it with Sophie all the time and I am sure my neighbours think I am crazy when they walk by the door! I do it with my cats as well.

Sophie (our yorkie) has a set of nicknames my husband and I both call her as well as ones we each call her! My husband even uses a high-pitched or baby voice with her!
Both of us - So-ph-ia (each syllable is emphasized), Soph, baby or munchkin
Me - Monkey, Stink Bug, Pun-kin
Husband - Turdball, Ms. Piggy, Fatty or Butthead (all said very lovingly though!)

And just for fun, here are the cats' names they get!
Grumpy - Grump, Grump-a-bump, Bumps, Grumpy Bumpy
Sammie - Sam, Sam Bam, Bammers, Bam
Libby (short for Liberace) - Raw-chee (name she responds to best), Rawch (I have never had to spell these names out before!) or Rawchee-o-li (a word play on ravioli lol)
Mimi - our kitty that passed away last month was Meems, Meemers or Meemer the lemur
