We have a doggie day care here. I did a training course with our big dog there, so I got to see it and be in it and everything. They have 3 outdoor areas for playing that are separated by fences. They have small to medium dogs in one side and then medium to large dogs in the next and the 3rd area is if they have a really large group, they can split them up, or they can take a smaller group out there or if they have a dog that is acting up they can move them to that area. Our big dog was not good with the other dogs in his class and when we had free time the last few minutes of class they let my dog play fetch with us in the large 3rd section and he loved it. He is always on a leash at home and so the freedom to run in there and chase the ball was fun for him. There were about 5 dogs in the class and all the rest were cocker spaniel or smaller sized except for my huge setter. It is funny because that was 3 years ago and now he likes only small dogs.

From what I saw though the dogs at the daycare are well supervised at all times. They also have an indoor area for when it rains and the dogs can take turns in there as well and they go in there if it is really hot out too, although I don't think the dogs mind the heat all that much.
