Was your pup diagnosed with GME or NME? There is a difference. Sometimes they can tell without the spinal tap by the lesions on the brain but to be 100% you need the spinal tap. Do not take him/her off the pred. There is a website called "New GME Dogs" devoted to all pet parents fighting this disease. It is a yahoo website. I am surprised your maltese is just taking the pred because they usually have them on more medication. There is a leading neuro out of Boston named Dr. Sisson who specializes in this disease.
