He is doing better since they put him on prednisone. but he has gained soooooo much weight. he was 3.5 lbs now he is 5.8 lbs. he was on 5 mg pred , now down to 3.5 an azthioprane liquid.

the neuroligist said encephalitis used to be 6 months to live but with azthioprane it would give 6 years. my dilemma now is do we take him off everything, the weight is NOT good for him and he is starving all the time.
he said we could take him off and see ... he has not concrete diagnosis since we could not do the spinal tap and we dont think he should go under gain to do it just to get a diagnosis ...

any thoughts?
I would not take him off his meds! You could do a consult with a vet nutritionist who could formulate a diet that would satisfy him but not put weight on him. I have found that the pups I home cook for get more food than when I fed them dog food.
