We are collecting stuff for my teenage daughters puppy to arrive in a couple months as well. The other things we picked up were baby blankets and some t shirts, dresses for her little girl. The t shirts are mostly in case it is cold, but it will be just about summer here when she arrives so we didn't feel she needed a sweater. My Yorkie loves blankets so she has about 6 baby blankets for her new puppy and then 2 of the cheap throw blankets from Wal-Mart to go in her crate. We also got her a couple beds to throw around the house for her. Pee pads if you plan to use them.
I also have all my dog crates lined with a bed pad, washable type pad you would use for a person at night. You can get them that fit most crates. That way if there is an accident in the crate you can pull it out and wash all the bedding easily, as long as they won't chew it. My two older dogs don't chew so I just keep them in the bottom of their crates and wash them about once a month, unless they have an accident and then they go right into a bucket to be taken downstairs to wash. My big dog is great, but if we do leave him too long he will pee in the crate, like once a year kind of thing. He was getting UTI frequently and so he was going in the crate an hour after we would take him outside, but once that cleared up it wasn't happening. My Yorkie (I have had him 2 months) has never gone in his crate. He only peed in my house the day after I brought him home and I didn't even say a word to him, I just took him outside and then came back in and cleaned it up and he never did it again. I knew he was adjusting to the fact that his owners just handed him to me and told me to keep him and he had no idea where he was. He adjusted wonderfully though!
It sounds like you are about ready. Our puppy is only 2 weeks old, so we have a long wait yet! We get pictures about twice a week from my friend. We get to visit her in April and then go back and pick her up the end of May or early June. We can't wait.
