I keep my girl's coat mostly short (particularly on the body). Her coat would be beautiful but it would be much harder to keep up with longer (it's been a little long before and was easy to tangle). The coat usually isn't so thick it's bad for the yorkie but if you live in hotter areas and keep it long, they will overheat quicker and more often, so I guess it's mostly under those situations where it may be best to keep it shorter. If it's cooler areas, the fuller coat comes in handy (but granted since it's hair-like texture it's not made for dramatic weather of either hot or cold in extreme)
