I actually bought mine for my Chi but she never really liked it. Then came Hannah and she loves it. Snacks and toys helped her understand that it was hers. I used it a lot when she was a pup. I moved her from room to room with me so she was always close. Now I leave it open by my bed and she uses her stairs to get in and out of it. I noticed that once I started pushing her to places that she was not normally allowed (like the porch) she liked it even more. I would not use it to replace a crate while your not home nor would I make her stay in it if she cries too much. You don't want her to feel like she's being punished. Make it fun for her and in time I think she'll like it. I also used to slide my hand in it and give Hannah lots of tummy rubs. She still jumps in it and rolls right over! Oh and my DH along with others thought I'd lost it at first until they saw the many uses for it!
