Default Question about anal glands

Lacey gave me a scare last night. She went to poop and could not get the poop out all the way. She seemed to be hurting. She went walking through the house with poop hanging out of her butt. I caught her and cleaned her up. Poop was soft and not hard like constipation. She would walk a few steps and would sit down. She did this over and over. She seemed uncomfortable squatting to pee and kept turning around looking at her back end. I convinced myself she had swallow something that was interfering with her going to the bathroom. Pepper Jack had earlier picked up a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser that I dropped by mistake and had proceeded to tear it into a million pieces. I just knew Lacey had swallow some of that sponge.

Off to the vet we go this morning. Anal glands full. Lacey never scooted, but she did give her butt a few funny looks this morning. So anal glands cleaned out, warm compress on her little butt, and a pain pill just in case. She went two years without a problem with her anal glands. Does this mean she will now have to continually have her glands expressed? Has anyone had just one occurrence of this and not had a problem since? I've always heard it was bad to regularly get them expressed.
