 Ideal age for neutering
I want to get Hobbs neutered as soon as it is safe in order to prevent the "bad" stuff that boys do, i.e. humping. My vet says that they generally neuter dogs at 6 months. He said that since his testicals have already desended that they would do it at 5 months for me if I wanted them to. Should I go with the vet's "general rule" and wait till Hobbs is 6 months old, or could I go ahead and get him fixed at 5 months??? The vet said that the reason they like to wait until theyare 6 months is because at that age they have almost finished growing, and the bigger they are, the better they can handle the anesthesia. I know several people have gotten their yorkies neutered well before their babies were 6 months old, but I don't want to take any risks asking the vet to do something that he says he doesn't normally do. I would never forgive myself if something happened to my Mr. Hobbs. |
