I feed raw as well, but I can't rely on it to prevent or treat heartworm. I give heartworm all year 'round here in AZ, and it's not even that prevalent here. That said, a few years ago I rescued a stray lab in my neighborhood and lo and behold that poor baby turned out to have heartworm so she had to go through all the excruciating treatment that HW treatment entails. I'd rather give HW preventive than treat my dog w/ arsenic for actual HW infection.
