Tail docking has its roots for Yorkies, I believe, in the ratting/vermin jobs it used to do. While following vermin into small places, they didn't want the dogs' tails to catch and tear. These days, the practice is just done for cosmetic effect. To the best of my knowledge it is banned in many European countries as animal cruelty. That is why the Biewer's standard is to have a full tail.
As my personal opinion, I would have rather not had Yoshi's tail docked if I had known at the time. It is cute, but I really can't condone cutting off the extremity of an animal if it doesn't serve a practical or medical purpose. |
