Also I'd like to add while having a large breed dog can act as a deterrent for some wishing to cause you harm I wouldn't have one as my first line of defense and would always have some type of backup protection. Whether it's alarms(first line of defense), gun, taser, cattle prod, etc. ETA our bulldog just ran up to me to sit in my lap and gave me a bloody lip instead. Not intentional on her part at all but these larger breeds sometimes do not know their strength.
