On the subject of hawks, I talked to the Fish and Wildlife people and they suggested running heavy fishing line from the fence to the house back and forth. This method is used on some of the outdoor restaurants to keep the sea gulls away. I've done this and haven't had a problem. The lines are close enough that the bird knows it cannot safely fly through the lines.
I'm checking next week with Lowes to see if I can get another door, clear soft vinyl. In the meantime I've propped it open for the little buggers. I've tried everything from bribes to shoving his tiny butt through the door but nada. I'll post if I find a replacement door.
