If you need to stop on the way for a puppy potty break, lay an old sheet on the ground so they don't have to touch where another animal may have been. If you go to a thrift store, you can get old sheets cheap and not feel badly if you choose to toss it rather than wash it.

Remember to take deep breaths and remain calm, they will feed off your behavior. If you're calm, they have a better chance of remaining calm and quiet. I hope the breeder has introduced them to crates and cars, if not, just breath, be matter of fact - don't give in to hysterics. You may comfort them, of course, but remain firm so you don't start a bad habit of them training you. (they'll do enough of that later).
