Breeding a healthy animal is by far the most important thing. I have to say though that the standards that are set by some breed clubs have caused a lot of problems for certain breeds. Some have been bred to standards that will not allow them to welp pups naturally or have breathing problems trying to breed for that pug nose. We (humans) have decided what characteristics we want in specific breeds and IMO it is not always a benefit to the breeds health.
