Hi Gang! Rigby is 9 months old and, try as we might, he continues to be very defiant. He poops outside, but after he's been out, he'll come back in the house, look us right in the eye, and pee on the nearest corner ... just a spritz; not enough to call an elimination of all his urine. We have been following all general advice regarding house training (taking him out to a spot as soon as he wakes up, when he finishes eating, an hour to two hours after he eats, after he's finished playing with the other dog and cat, etc.). He can hold it all night, until we take him outside first thing in the morning, but again, spritzes when he comes in!
We are about to have him neutered anyway, and an extra tooth pulled at the same time. But I was curious if anyone has had experience with this? I have met a couple of Yorkie owners who say that house training was difficult until their pups were neutered, but the neutering seemed to decrease defiance and help with some barking issues as well.
Just as an aside, I have bred and shown Springer Spaniels for 18 years, and never had any trouble housetraining any of those dogs, except unneutered males. But even so, I did eventually get them housetrained inside of two months. I also never had trouble with barking before this. Rigby seems to be aggressive when he meets people, barking at them and not letting up until he ends up getting punished (time-out in the bathroom for about 10 minutes).
Any thoughts?
