That is exactly how Teek is! I don't leave him alone upstairs long at all (our main floor is upstairs) and if I go downstairs just to do a load of laundry, like 2-3 minutes he is at the gate and standing up and pawing the air because he is so happy to see me. It just makes my day!
One day I left him laying on the couch with my teenage daughter and I went in the kitchen to clean it up a bit. I came back in the living room (he was wander between these rooms freely) and he was so excited to see me as if I had been gone. I run out to the car to get something and come back inside and he is happy to see me. I do believe people when they say that dogs have no sense of time, except how do they know when it is dinner time though? It is all crazy!
