I took Piper to a large field to play in the snow, but there was a couple already there with three large, loose dogs. "Oh, don't worry, our dogs are friendly." Well, there are three large of them and one little Piper and I continued to hold her and walk and turn away as the one dog kept jumping at us. Nothing happened (this time), but it irritated me that the owners didn't call off the dogs nor make any attempt to 'corral' them. Here in Sparks, we are very fortunate to have a dog-friendly marina with a walking path all around the water (about 2 miles) and dogs must be leashed; it is the one place I am truly comfortable walking Piper. I am, however, going to get a telescoping umbrella to carry when we walk through residential neighborhoods. I don't why it's so difficult for the powers-that-be to understand the logical, sensible, and simple-to-implement safety requirements of small or elderly dogs..In public areas all dogs must be leashed at all times or face hefty and immediate fines. |
