Doglover4, sounds like you just need to do a little backtracking.

New house = new rules and new boundries. Giving pups the run of the house= giving them permission to make their own rules. My dogs learn that no potty in certain areas means they've earned that space.

What do you think about your pup following you around the house instead of the other way around? Tethering my dogs was the method I used for potty training. I can catch them in the act, learn their signal when they need to potty and teach/show them where to do their business.

When my dogs were young and already trained at home you would think they know just to target the piddle pad in someone else's home but they don't. I tethered them when going into a different house for the first few times like visiting family and friends and I don't give them free roam until they understand where they're suppose to potty.
