After several mild cases of interference were reported and or at least suspected throughout USA and Canada; we exhibitors and pro handlers did go on more high alert. For eg: when I first started showing 10+ yrs ago, it was quite common to see the water jugs left out beside the dogs crate, as well as your food container. It has not been so since at least 5 or more years.
Whom-so-ever did this can not call themselves a dog lover by any definition! |
Thank goodness, Gail, that's really good everyone has made those changes voluntarily. It's a wonder it hasn't happened before now I guess but now that a dog has died horribly from poisoning apparently at this prestigious, world's largest dog show, it's going to really change, I hope, starting with the handlers and working right through to the event holders. I wonder if the public should even be allowed to get close enough to the dogs to slip them anything? Seems with the aggressive groups of dog-show and purebred haters out there this day and time, the nature of the bench show must change from the public fairly freely passing all around and about, in and out, with the possibility of a couple of people distracting the handler or security guard while the dog is within easy reach. I'd think no show owner or handler would chance losing their baby like that ever again. I hope serious changes are made to keep the dogs safe.
You are so right, Gail. That poisoner was no doglover!!! And this was not done to help other dogs by inhibiting show owners from showing their other dogs out of fear!!! This was pure evil. You know, one can't help but think of poor Jagger's last hours and all have to make sure that that never happens again.
