Personally, I would go with the smaller dose for now. I really like Comfortis as a flea treatment so much better than the topical ones. Luckily I have only had to use it about once a year as they haven't had exposure to fleas.

I also have 2 Maltese/Yorkie mixes, and they continued to grow and fill out until after 1 year. Puppies have growth spurts and may seem chubby at times, then they grow taller. I would never consider a "puppy" over weight, they need nourishment to develop, and their bodies will level out. As adults, weight can become an issue, especially if you give them too many treats, but don't worry about that at this age.

BTW my 3 dogs are 6 yrs old, and average 8 lbs, and they get 1/3 cup of Wellness twice a day. One is very thin and one is rather chunky, and funny the one who eats the most is the smallest. They all would benefit from more exercise.
