Which Comfortis to Use? Puppy Weight Problem? We have Louie, our 5 month old Yorkie/Maltese mix, on Comfortis and Heartgard. For the past week, he has stayed between 4 lbs 15 oz and 5 lbs.
Theoretically, if he does stay at this weight by next month, what the heck do I do? Do I use the Comfortis for 3 lb to 4.9 lb dogs? Or do I use the one for 5 lb to 9.9 lb dogs? I would assume that it'd be safer to use the smaller dose, but will it be enough? What do you guys think?
Also, is it normal for a pup's weight to start leveling out at this age? He's on Solid Gold Wee Bit and eats 1/2 a cup per day (we split it into 1/4 a cup twice a day). After treats, it ends up being 220-240kcal/day. He goes for a 1 to 1.5 mile walk 4 to 5 days a week. I can't feel his ribs when normally petting him, but I definitely can if I actually try to feel them. He has a visible belly "tuck", and a visible waist. It's hard to see anything under all that fur, but when I lay the fur to the side, I can't see his ribs. I can just feel them. His belly does not protrude, but does not cave in. If I was judging his weight by his belly alone I'd say he was a good weight.
This is my first dog so I honestly don't know how to properly judge his weight. It's very important to me that he doesn't become overweight, but it's just as important that he can gain weight if he needs to! He is a growing puppy, after all!
