I've had dogs that ate grass, but most of the time it wasn't to make themselves vomit (though on a rare occasion they have). Aside from the "flavor" I think it's also for fiber. My mother would feed our dogs bits of cabbage or lettuce (stems and greens) to curb their "cravings". Seems to work. Otherwise they do have edible "pet" grass. Tried it once, and that did pretty decent too.
