When we got our Yorkie my teenage daughter just started putting topknots in. No idea if he has had them before (I am think yes, but only when they had him groomed about once a year). She just pulls it up and puts a band in. It stays for about a day most of the time and then he works it out. She just brushes him out and does it again the next day. He gets brushed at least once a day but quite often twice a day he is given a brush out by us.

I don't plan to send my Yorkie to the groomer as I can do most of the grooming myself, but if he needs it I can contact my sister who is a groomer to have whatever I need done. I want his hair to grow. I had to cut out a section right in front of his tail when I got him that was matted badly. Then we cut a few small matts off his tail and underside as well. Since that first week though we have had no problems since we brush him out daily.
