In order to make sure that you are not doing more harm to your pup then good you need to make sure you get a recipe from a vet nutritionist and that you are using a supplement like balance it. I really strongly disagree in not using heartworm prevention. It is a very dangerous decision. The treatment for heartworms can kill your dog especially because of yorkies being smaller and if it doesn't kill the dog it will leave them with lasting health issues like heart problems and stuff. Please reconsider not using heartworm prevention.
