My Yorkie Cricket was diagnosed with a liver shunt as a puppy. The people I got her from had just had a litter of puppies for the expierence. ( it was their first litter).The puppy I got was the one that they would have kept ( if they were going to keep one). Cricket did have surgery for her shunt. But she was diagnosed with MVD so she does eat prescription food. I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you. I would be heartbroken as well if I had to return my dog.
