Sad My Yorkie has a collapsing trachea

My Piper is 4 1/2 year old yorkie. She was diagnosed with a collapsing trachea today. She's been making a honking noise whenever she gets overly excited for over a year now so we knew some type of diagnosis was coming. She has two fractured teeth that we were going to get surgically removed this week....but when the vet gave her the pain meds and got ready to draw blood she became so anxious and her breathing became so difficult that she started turning blue. So my vet decided not to go through with the procedure. We took her for a surgery consult today where we were told she has a collapsing trachea. I'm very concerned and scared. With the surgeon's guidance we chose to do a medical management plan instead of surgery because of Piper's younger age. I'm just curious if anyone else who has dealt with this issue might have pointers, advice, something to make me feel better about this situation
