I agree with the socialization possibilities with the neighbor. Have you talked with your vet about anti-anxiety medication for your pup. It might help him settle down some and help with socialization. I know no one want to put their pups (or kids) on medication, but it is a good alternative to many others.
Yes I'm sure he will miss you, but if he is kindly cared for he will be Okay and glad to see you when you get home.
