Anyone ever heard of the Cancer Centers of America? These are some of the most respected/talented Oncologists in our country and their success rates speak for themselves. They use and encourage integrative medicine, as do so many MDs these days:

Discover Integrative Cancer Treatment | CTCA

They even use a Naturopath: Naturopathic Medicine for Cancer Treatment | CTCA

I would not call these MDs quacks or any other name for recommending complimentary medicine. The medicine is, by definition/name, "integrative" and "complimentary". Adjunct therapies can truly do wonders for very sick patients.

I have to address the idea that Cancer Treatment Center of America (they are FOR PROFIT hospital FYI) is doing something or offering the best.....it's all advertising. They really are not doing anything different from other oncologists and surgeons. I know for a fact that the same surgeons that work at CTC also work right down the road at 2 other large area hospitals. Do you think they are treating the same disease differently 5 miles away? You will receive the best treatment with a team approach with all aspects of your care working together. CTC is not offering anything magical other than hope for very sick people. I've been there before and it's a very sad place because you know all the people visiting are in different stages of cancer care. They are greeted by a concierge at the front door after valet parking and then personally escorted to their appointment. I found it to be kind of a creepy DisneyLand type of atmosphere.

Oh boy....I had absolutely no idea about these articles until I just tried to do a quick Google search.

CTCA Sells False Hope

Quote:
CTCA spins the numbers. Their patients have more money and better insurance than the national average. People with more money and better insurance have better outcomes because they are healthier before they are diagnosed with cancer.

CTCA only includes in their statistics patients who have been exclusively treated at CTCA, which means that only people with the resources to travel to their facilities for their initial treatments and people with generous insurance companies are included in the numbers.

The elderly, the poor, the under-insured, the most vulnerable of the sick aren’t included in CTCA’s numbers. The people most likely to die aren’t included in the numbers. In fact, the bulk of the people actually treated by CTCA aren’t included in the numbers.

At its very best, Cancer Treatment Centers of America provides standard care on par with non-profit institutions. At its worst, Cancer Treatment Centers of America sells hope to desperate people and profits from their desperation.

It is, perhaps, the case that if CTCA agrees to provide you care, that you will be in a room with four specialists all focusing on your case at the same time. It may even be the case that you will receive treatment that meets the standard of care.

You will not, however, be treated by doctors and by an institution that provide better outcomes to patients.

You will, instead, be a customer.
This last sentence is how I felt when I made my visit there and found it the saddest part of all.

You will never convince me, however, that a company should be able to profit by selling false hope.
